Here on Long Island we are still very much experiencing the effects of a prolonged winter and some days it seems as if spring is never going to arrive, but it will and soon!

In fact we are only 15 days away from the spring equinox. And soon the day will arrive when we want to go outside and prepare our yards and outdoor living spaces for family use again.

Clearly you will need to do some general “spring cleaning” meaning that you will need to grab your rake and a trash bag and get out there and pick up debris, litter, pet waste, small branches, pine cones, etc., that has accumulated during the snow season.

Next you might want to really do a deep raking of your lawn to help avoid the fungal disease known as snow mold.

From there you will probably want to begin cleaning up in your perennial beds by removing dead leaves, plants and small shrubs that froze during the winter. Once you have cleaned your yard up, you will notice that nature takes over and begins the renewal process.
